Environmental vs Seasonal Allergies

Environmental allergies derive from the environments you’re in and the things in them  – from your professional work space, to your automobile, and to your residence. Some causes for environmental allergies are:

  • Dust mites
  • Animal allergies of all types
  • Mold
  • Cockroach, Fire ant

Seasonal allergies comprise of various allergies that are activated by seasonal shifts – most often from plants which bud at set times of the year. Some causes for seasonal allergies are:

  • Grasses (bermuda, kentucky blue)
  • Trees(mulberry, cedar, oak, ash)
  • Weeds(ragweed, dandellion)

Skin Testing for Seasonal and Environmental Allergies

Skin tests (likewise referred to as scratch or prick tests) entail making a light prick on the skin of your back or forearm with a small dab of liquid allergen. There’s no discomfort involved. Several patients even believe it tickles!

By analyzing the skin’s reaction, within 20 minutes we’re able to observe the results. This can be a little bit of redness or an elevated bump – resembling a “mosquito” bite. Normally, a raised bump will suggest that treatment may be required for the allergic reaction.  As an additional choice, we administer blood tests also, but skin tests provide same day results and normally have better accuracy.

Allergy testing, in typical cases is highly effective and safe for both children and adults of any age group per the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Allergy extracts and vaccines that are applied with allergy tests completed by our allergists comply with stipulations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Allergy Treatment Plans

Our team will be capable of treating any source of the allergy, either with allergy shots or allergy drops – by assessing which allergens adversely affect you. Instead of an injection, Allergy drops require daily drops under the tongue.
