  • Hives
  • Swelling of lips, mouth, or other areas of the body
  • Instant nausea, vomiting, and/or delayed diarrhea
  • Asthma symptoms (wheezing, shortness of breath)

Almost ninety percent of food allergies result from the following foods:

  • Milk
  • Wheat
  • Egg
  • Soybeans
  • Peanuts
  • Tree Nuts (Cashews, Walnuts, Pecans, Pistachios, Hazelnut, Macadamia, Almonds)
  • Fish

Skin Testing for Food Allergies

A skin test is administered by a slight prick of teh skin using a small drop of liquid food allergen. No pain is involved. Some patients even claim that it tickles!

Within approximately twenty minutes, ours specialists can witness the outcome by surveying the skin’s reaction. This can vary from being a bit of redness to a bump resembling a “mosquito bite”. A bump that is raised commonly suggests an allergic reaction and that treatment might be required.

Blood Testing for Food Allergies

Blood testing for food allergies observes and gauges the extent of allergen antibodies inside your blood. Testing outcomes are made available within one or two weeks. An independent laboratory will examine the blood sample and return the results to our certified team at Allergy & Sinus Centers of Central Texas

Oral Food Challenge

Should results from skin or blood testing be unsure, an oral food challenge might be advised. Throughout that procedure, you will eat or drink small quantities of a food in increasing amounts over a duration of time to ascertain if an allergic reaction happens. This is performed always under the doctor’s supervision.

What to Anticipate from the Oral Food Challenge
